American Magazine and Historical Chronicle is first published.

It is published by Joshua Blanchard and Samuel Eliot and printed by Gamaliel Rogers and Daniel Fowle from a shop next to the Court House near today’s 26 Court Street. Jeremy Gridley is the first editor. It is modeled after the London Magazine and contains world events, government listings, humorous essays, and birth and death announcements. The most successful early magazine in the Colonies, it is also sold in Newport, New Haven, New York and Philadelphia and publishes until 1746.
